New Community Garden Set For Old Irving Park

I am very happy to announce that we qualified for “Phase II” funding from Green Corps Chicago to add an additional community garden to our neighborhood.  We have chosen to landscape the four corners at Tripp Ave. and Byron St.  This is a very visible intersection and will be enjoyed by many every day.  I am still working on the design but I will be utilizing both single stem and multi stem Amelanchier x grandiflora ‘Autumn Brilliance’ to anchor each parcel of land.  I will also be using Knock Out Roses ‘Rosa’ at the base for non-stop iridescent pink/red roses all summer.  The installation date is s et for Friday May 7th.  We’re going to meet at 8:30 AM.  I am looking for volunteers to help with the planting.  Like last time, we will be receiving help in the form of real landscapers from Green Corps but we need to provide volunteers as well.  Last time I managed to get food donated from Golden Nugget, La Villa and Smoque so there was plenty to eat.  This time I am going to try to get food from different neighborhood establishments.  If you helped last October then you know how much fun we had and what a satisfying project this was.  If you couldn’t help last time here is your chance to donate a few hours to help beautify this  wonderful  neighborhood we all call home.  For more information please call Maureen Taylor  773-255-2789
