Harvest & Garden Clean-up
Tuesday, October 9th
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
The threat of frost seems real, so we’ll have one of our final harvests and begin to prepare the garden for winter.  Temperatures should be in the ’60s, so it will be nice harvesting weather.
Through the end of September, we have harvested 873 lbs. of vegetables for the Irving Park Community Food Pantry!
Garden to Table Dinner A Success!
Thank you Portage Restaurant!

The Portage Restaurant was the site for a three course garden-to-table dinner in late September to benefit Three Brothers Garden.  Over 40 diners gathered to show their support for the garden, which supplies the Irving Park Community Food Pantry with fresh vegetables.  Diners feasted on a beet and mesclun salad, their choice of four entrees and mint chocolate panna cotta for dessert.  Many of the ingredients used in the dishes were grown in the garden, enabling many of the guests who volunteer in the garden to taste the fruits of their labor for the first time.

Portage owner Quay Tao and his entire staff went out of their way to accommodate the dinner at their beautiful restaurant. We really wanted to spotlight what we’re growing in the garden and Chef Airon Adams created some delicious dishes using our vegetables.

The menu featured Three Brothers Garden beets, Swiss chard, kale, lettuce, collard greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, basil and sage.  Unseasonably warm temperatures allowed guests to enjoy The Portage’s beautiful outdoor patio.

A raffle was held featuring condiments from the garden made by Ed Gardner, a Three Brothers Garden tote bag and t-shirt created by Rebecca Haneberg and leather cuff bracelets by Sarah Steedman of Urban Craft Lab.  Proceeds of the raffle and the dinner raised approximately $700 for the garden.
We hope to gather for another dinner next season!
Thank you for your support!
